Nice Ad Placement
As I am certain thousands of others were, I spent a small part of my morning watching engadget and their live blog-style update of the WWDC 2010. This was of course to check out the new iPhone (which imo was rather impressive), however I got a laugh when I noticed the banner ads that were running. Haha, Go Verizon.~create something

The Dash

Wanted to spread some love for hip-hop.com as we just released our blog called "The Dash". A piece that is sure to evolve over time, this is the current starting design we created through a word press integration. Check it out for some enlightening content on hip-hop, technology and other good things to know.

The relaunch of my own site
I am proud to say that I just relaunched my personal site: uriahs.comThis was a milestone for me. I built my site from the ground-up, coding all of the html and css, and getting a little extra help from my boy BK who is a master of many things. My new site is meant to highlight the brands I have worked on, and hopefully invite others to approach me with their own brand needs. My previous site was also all flashed based with heavy restrictions on it. This made it hard to modify, and invisible on mobile devices. Fortunately the new site has none of these restrictions, as it is all dhtml. :)
I also invite any designers out there to take the time and learn some more code...the internet is an invaluable research and development tool, and it may surprise you how much you can do all by your lonesome. Look for more site updates soon, and I shall do my best to write more...

The Initial Launch of Hip-Hop.com
Whew it's been a busy few months. As of last Saturday, April 10th 2010 www.hip-hop.com is live! Above is the placeholder we used to have up announcing the launch. Granted it's the initial beta (lots of little things to tweak!) and there's loads more to come, but I am excited. Thought I'd throw a quick post up just to say ta-da...~create something

Crazyness
Well, I don't know if the world of freelance is easier per se, but at least when you are putting in long hours you can be sitting in your favorite recliner with a laptop. :)One of the fun projects I have been working on lately is GRINDS. I am working with a couple of really good guys on this one, and I think their product is dynamite. Grinds are basically small coffee pouches in a can, similar to dip or chew but without all the crazy addictive stuff. They have made it their mission to replace dip in professional baseball, and I think they just might get a swing at it. Above is the website I created for them to get them started. Check it out and grab some coffee in your pocket today!

Here's To Beer - Video Walkthrough
While giving my laptop a much needed cleaning, I came across this video walk through of the Here's to Beer Site I art directed at my last agency. Interesting what a difference it makes to see a website in this format vs. the wide range of experiences your viewers can have based on their connection/hardware/monitor size.

Yet another quick logo
At a request from a friend, I created this logo for a program in Hawaii on the island of Kauai called The "Wai'ale'ale Project".Wai'ale'ale is the highest mountain on the island where we get the most water around the globe. To Hawaiians it is sacred and stands as a monument to be respected. The word itself means "rippling water" and is the main source of the many tributaries of water streams and rivers around the island.

Ok, so I'm not your ideal blogger...
Been awhile since I have updated. Not surprisingly, working for myself has proven to be a lot more effort than just doing the daily grind. It has been fruitful and interesting though, bringing on a host of projects I might not normally get a chance at in the day to day. The work has been ranging from 100 page power point templates with 5 brands integrated into them, to site designs I can't speak about for another couple months ;)Another interesting side effect is that I have been doing more logos lately. Here is one I did for a Sports Consultant.

Ones & Zeros
A good friend of mine is the lead singer for a band called Ones and Zeros, and had asked me to do a quick logo for him. This is the winner, modeled with some reference to a pirate flag (the crossed 1's). I will try and also post some of the alternates tomorrow to show (even more pirate-esque).~create something

Our first huge show...
Hip-hop.com is moving forward, with the live shows coming fast and furious. Our first major show presented by our new label is a hell of a great way to get started imo. Tomorrow (Monday) night at Ruby Skye in downtown San Francisco, Rakim and Mos Def are performing live. Check out the above flyer I put together for all the info.~create something

Lipton Sparkling
There's some thing's you work on that you just can't wait to show. While working at my last agency I concepted/designed a site for Lipton Sparkling Green Tea that I am happy to say went live this morning. Above is the original concept I did several months ago, so you can see the evolutions over time. Take a look and find something random today.http://www.liptonsparkling.com/

Spread the word - www.hip-hop.com

Life is good. I have now been freelance for almost a month, and work has been steady. I am hoping at some point to keep this thing updated on a more regular basis, however I am still finding that the majority of the work I do can't be released until months after the fact. Fortunately I have been working on something I can share.
I recently did a re-branding for www.hip-hop.com. My love for hip-hop in general has made this a very fun and exciting project to be a part of. Only a holder page for now, but we are working on so much more. Here is the logo I came up with which I hope does a good job of taking the classic hip-hop symbol of the power fist, and modernizes it by showing the fist holding a pair of headphones. It is also meant to symbolize the average hip-hop user and their general mindstate. Catch the vibe.

Oh the times, they are a changin'
After a lot of work and consideration I have decided to leave my current agency and strike out on my own. I am hoping to start my own agency/design shop/hybrid, and best of all I will be able to finally work from home. My big mac is all set up and ready to go with dual 24" monitors and the comfiest chair I could find. I will supply more and more details as time goes on, but for now, here is another one of my half done sketch pads (black sketch pad - silver paint pen). I really need to start scanning these in instead of using iphone snaps.~create something
