Ones & Zeroes - Alternates

Ok, so maybe I went a little overboard on the pirate theme, but these were fun nonetheless. Here are the alternate logos I promised for my friend's band.

Ones & Zeros

A good friend of mine is the lead singer for a band called Ones and Zeros, and had asked me to do a quick logo for him. This is the winner, modeled with some reference to a pirate flag (the crossed 1's). I will try and also post some of the alternates tomorrow to show (even more pirate-esque).

Our first huge show...

Hip-hop.com is moving forward, with the live shows coming fast and furious. Our first major show presented by our new label is a hell of a great way to get started imo. Tomorrow (Monday) night at Ruby Skye in downtown San Francisco, Rakim and Mos Def are performing live. Check out the above flyer I put together for all the info.

Lipton Sparkling

There's some thing's you work on that you just can't wait to show. While working at my last agency I concepted/designed a site for Lipton Sparkling Green Tea that I am happy to say went live this morning. Above is the original concept I did several months ago, so you can see the evolutions over time. Take a look and find something random today.

Spread the word - www.hip-hop.com

Life is good. I have now been freelance for almost a month, and work has been steady. I am hoping at some point to keep this thing updated on a more regular basis, however I am still finding that the majority of the work I do can't be released until months after the fact. Fortunately I have been working on something I can share.

I recently did a re-branding for www.hip-hop.com. My love for hip-hop in general has made this a very fun and exciting project to be a part of. Only a holder page for now, but we are working on so much more. Here is the logo I came up with which I hope does a good job of taking the classic hip-hop symbol of the power fist, and modernizes it by showing the fist holding a pair of headphones. It is also meant to symbolize the average hip-hop user and their general mindstate. Catch the vibe.

Oh the times, they are a changin'

After a lot of work and consideration I have decided to leave my current agency and strike out on my own. I am hoping to start my own agency/design shop/hybrid, and best of all I will be able to finally work from home. My big mac is all set up and ready to go with dual 24" monitors and the comfiest chair I could find. I will supply more and more details as time goes on, but for now, here is another one of my half done sketch pads (black sketch pad - silver paint pen). I really need to start scanning these in instead of using iphone snaps.

Sketch Pads

I have been keeping my sketch pads for years, and found that I enjoy drawing on them as much as I enjoy drawing in them. Here's an iphone shot of one of them for now, but I'll try and scan the rest in later.

Pure Awesomeness

I have no idea who did this and where it originated, but my hats off to you, and if you are reading this let me know and I would be happy to give proper credit. I just had to share :)

The view

I know this is a badly hacked together panorama (I have the high res photos and plan to one day do this right), however I felt it was worth sharing. This was the view from my last agency. I do miss that balcony.

Another random desktop

Unfortunately I have been finding that the majority of my day to day work can't be posted for months due to NDA's (Non Disclosure Agreements). Instead I am going to make a daily effort to try and take 10-15 minutes to do something random. The following was today's randomness, a break from pitch work.

Nice and Big, it's at 1920 x 1200

My Beautiful Wife

Yesterday was my one year wedding anniversary, and seeing how it is known as the paper anniversary I figured I would do a drawing of my amazing wife.

Widgets

Everyone loves widgets, in fact the word seems almost magical in client meetings. Widgets make the world a better place. This is a contribution of mine, to said place. A widget I designed for ABC.

Dragon

A little something I have been working on in my spare time. I have always had a love of these mythical creatures and their noble majesty. Hopefully this will be the first tribute of many.

USGA

Been awhile since my last post...well I guess if you're interested in following what I have to say then you will get used to it. I enjoy writing (despite my serious grammar issues), but posting on the regular has never been a strength.

Last year I worked on a website for the U.S.G.A. (United States Golf Association) that was all about chronicling the history of golf in the U.S. The U.S.G.A. Museum was a fun site to design due to the high quality of the assets provided. I particularly enjoyed doing the series of murals for the history time line. While they look good on the site, you can't see the murals in their entirety so I thought I would post one here (above pic).

More to come soon...
